Anyone that has been around long enough in this world should know that knowledge is power.  I am a firm believer that if you constantly build on knowledge and consistently apply it with a little creativity and hard work, you will reap great rewards.  Nothing good ever happens overnight.

To me, the best type of start-up business requiring the least amount of up front cash is some sort of service oriented business.  Why?  Because you have spent a lifetime developing knowledge and perfecting something in a specific field.   So, turn that knowledge and skill into a service that you provide for compensation.  You might be surprised at how many people can benefit from what you have to offer.

How does a strapped for cash start-up business find these people that could be potential customers?  The best method is “word-of-mouth” because when someone hears from a trusted friend or colleague that you are good at what you do, honest, trustworthy, and a person of your word, they are more inclined to contact you.  It also helps to make your rates more then affordable initially until you build up that credibility.  It is just like the fundamental rule of supply and demand in economics.  As you bring on more and more customers, your skill level improves along with your reputation.  After a while, you find yourself in a predicament where you don’t have enough time to serve all of your customers.  So, your prices go up a little.  This helps balance out the supply and demand of what you have to offer.

I started my PC Repair business with this same concept.  I am very pleased with the direction it is going in. It reminds me of the old saying that “success is a journey not a destination”.  While I am busting my tail, working hard from 5:00am until 11:00pm, it is rewarding because I am seeing positive results.  I am being successful.
